- (Osmanlı Dönemi) Söz verme. Söz verilen şey. Bir kimsenin yapacağına veya yapmayacağına dâir söz vermiş olduğu husus. Bir şeyi yapmak veya bir şey için söz vermek va'ddır. Hayır işlenecek iş için masdar "va'd" veya "vaide" dir. İşlenecek şey şer ise; ev'ide denir. Masdarı "Îâd: $ " dır. Va'd hayırda, îâd ve vaîd şerde kullanıldığına göre; vaîd: $ masdarı şerre niyet ettiğini, korkulacak iş işleyeceğini haber vermekle korkutmaktan ibarettir
