(Hayvan Bilim, Zooloji) Gundis (family Ctenodactylidae) are a group of small, stocky rodents found in Africa. The family comprises 4 genera and 5 species (Speke's Gundi, Felou Gundi, Desert Gundi, North African Gundi and Mzab Gundi). They are herbivorous. They are in the superfamily Ctenodactyloidea. They first came to the notice of western naturalists in Tripoli in 1774 and were given the name 'gundi mice'
A member of one of the few families of cavy-like rodents found outside South America, the Ctenodactylidae. Gundis are similar in size and appearance to guinea-pigs, except for their short tails and flat ears. There are four genera with some five species, occurring in desert or semi-desert regions of northern Africa. They shelter inside rock crevices but do not burrow. Diurnal and herbivorous, they are fond of sunbathing
