Many foreigners claim to have guanxi with their Chinese counterparts; few actually do.

(Ekonomi) Having "connections" in China is crucial. The Chinese word "quanxi" (pronounced QWANSHE), a pervasive network of personal relationships based on trust and mutual benefit, is not officially acknowledged but runs deep. Having quanxi working for the company is essential. This does not necessarily come at a high price. A friendly, sincere relationship established over a period of time and based on mutual respect is an integral part of Chinese culture.
