The thyroid gland
The thyroid cartilage
Your thyroid or your thyroid gland is a gland in your neck that produces chemicals which control the way your body grows and functions. an organ in your neck that produces substances that affect the way your body grows and the way you behave (thyroides, from thyreoeides , from thyreos , from thyra ; from the shape of the cartilage at the front of the throat)
of or relating to the thyroid gland; "thyroid deficiency"; "thyroidal uptake"
located near the base of the neck
The thyroid is a large endocrine gland situated in the base of the neck; it is concerned with regulation of the metabolic rate
suggestive of a thyroid disorder; "thyroid personality" of or relating to the thyroid gland; "thyroid deficiency"; "thyroidal uptake
Regulates metabolism and blood calcium levels
Organ in the neck surrounding the area of the windpipe where the voice box is located This organ helps regulate metabolism This gland requires iodine for production of hormones, thyroxine and Triiodothyronine This gland also secretes calcitonin More
Shaped like an oblong shield; shield-shaped; as, the thyroid cartilage
suggestive of a thyroid disorder; "thyroid personality"
A gland located in the front of the neck, just below the voice box
Of or pertaining to the thyroid body, thyroid cartilage, or thyroid artery; thyroideal
gland that produces a hormone which controls metabolism
a two-lobed endocrine gland found at the base of the neck and producing various hormones
is a very important gland in the human body It controls the rate of metabolism or how fast the body burns calories and operates The thyroid also controls how some other important glands and functions work, so it's important to know if it is working properly
of or relating to the thyroid gland; "thyroid deficiency"; "thyroidal uptake
{i} endocrine gland which secretes hormones for growth and metabolism; medicinal preparation made from animal thyroid tissue
A butterfly-shaped gland in the neck that secretes thyroid hormones Thyroid hormones regulate a number of physiologic processes, including growth, development, metabolism, and reproductive function
{s} of or pertaining to the thyroid gland
A two-lobed structure located in front of and on either side of the trachea, producing the hormone thryoxin; of or relating to the thyroid gland
thyroideal
thyroid cartilage

thyroid gland
A large butterfly-shaped endocrine gland situated on the front of the neck that produces various hormones. Removal due to thyroid cancer is termed a total thyroidectomy

thyroid gland
gland that creates a hormone that increases the exchange of the materials in the body
thyroid gland
An organ that helps regulate growth and the rate of chemical reactions (metabolism), mainly through the production of thyroid hormone
thyroid gland
An important organ in humans that helps regulate growth and the rate of chemical reactions (metabolism) in the body by releasing hormones The thyroid gland is located in the lower part of the front of the neck
thyroid gland
A small, butterfly-shaped endocrine organ located in the neck below and in front of the Adam's apple The thyroid gland weighs about 20 to 25 grams and produces thyroid hormone, which is released into the bloodstream

thyroid gland
n. A two-lobed endocrine gland found in all vertebrates, located in front of and on either side of the trachea in humans, and producing various hormones, such as triiodothyronine and calcitonin. Endocrine gland in the throat that secretes hormones vital to metabolism and growth. Secretion of thyroid hormones mostly thyroxine (T4) is controlled by thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), released by the pituitary gland when the level of thyroid hormones in the blood drops below a certain threshold (see endocrine system). These hormones' primary action in adults is to regulate cellular oxygen consumption (metabolic rate). They also lower blood cholesterol and are necessary for normal growth and development in children. The thyroid also produces calcitonin, a hormone that stimulates deposition of calcium from the blood into the bones, balancing the action of parathyroid hormone. See also goitre; Graves disease; iodine deficiency
thyroid gland
Near the "Adam's apple;" responsible for secretion of hormone that is involved in regulation of the rate of metabolism
thyroid hormone
any of several closely related compounds that are produced by the thyroid gland and are active metabolically
thyroid hormone
A hormone, especially thyroxine or triiodothyronine, produced by the thyroid gland
thyroid vein
any of several small veins draining blood from the thyroid area
thyroid-stimulating hormone
hormone which is secreted by the anterior pituitary gland and stimulates activity in the thyroid gland (Endocrinology), TSH
