A name for several plants with golden yellow blossoms, especially the Calendula officinalis (see Calendula), and the cultivated species of Tagetes
A marigold is a type of yellow or orange flower. Any of about 30 species of annual herbaceous plants that make up the genus Tagetes in the composite family, native to southwestern North America. The name also refers to the pot marigold (calendula) and unrelated plants of several families. Marigolds include popular garden ornamentals such as African marigold (T. erecta) and French marigold (T. patula), which have solitary or clustered red, orange, and yellow flowers and usually finely cut leaves. Because the strongly scented leaves discourage insect pests, marigolds are often planted among vegetable crops
Any of several plants of the genus Caltha, especially C. palustris, growing in swampy places and having bright yellow flowers. Also called cowslip. Perennial herbaceous plant (Caltha palustris) of the buttercup family, native to wetlands in Europe and North America. It is grown in boggy wild gardens. The plant has a hollow stem, heart-shaped or round leaves, and glossy pink, white, or yellow flowers composed solely of sepals (petals are absent). The stems, leaves, and roots are sometimes cooked and eaten as a vegetable, though the fresh plant is poisonous. See also cowslip
An aromatic annual Mexican plant (Tagetes erecta) in the composite family, having pinnately lobed leaves and showy, solitary, yellow to orange flower heads
A widely cultivated plant (Tagetes patula) native to Mexico and Guatemala, having divided leaves, yellow rays usually with reddish markings, and large solitary flower heads
Any of several weeds of the genus Bidens of the composite family, having yellow flowers and barbed achenes that stick to clothing or fur. Also called sticktight
