bell created in 1751 for use in government ceremonies in Pennsylvania such as the first reading of the Declaration of Independence (original bell was melted and recast in 1753)
a bell, kept in Philadelphia, in the US state of Pennsylvania, which was rung on July 8th, 1776, during the American Revolutionary War to tell people of the Declaration of Independence from Britain.
