A Jehovah's Witness
The personal name of God in the Hebrew Scriptures; in Hebrew, יהוה (YHVH)
{n} the Hebrew name for GOD, the LORD
Jehovah is the name given to God in the Old Testament. a name given to God in the Old Testament (=first part of the Bible)
{i} (Biblical) name of God in the Old Testament; one of the modern Christian names of God
The personal name of God in the Hebrew Scriptures; in Hebrew, יהוה (YHVH)
of the Supreme Being, which was not pronounced by the Jews
Means Lord, from the Hebrew YHWH, one of the Jewish names of God This word was considered so holy by the devout Jews that they would not pronounce His name
An early and mistaken attempt to represent the special Hebrew name for deity, YHWH; a more probable reconstruction of the divine name is Yahweh
A late rendering of the Sacred Name, misrepresenting a Latin rendering "Iehouah" based on an amateurish mediaevel Christian mistake in combining YHWH with vowel-points meant to signal another reading (adonay or elohim) as not to profane the Name in public by mispronouncing it, or allowing gentiles to hear it In short, there is no such Sacred Name "Jehovah" in the Bible or biblical faith
English corruption of the Hebrew YHVH (Yod-Heh-Vav-Heh)
An anglicized pronunciation of the Hebrew tetragrammaton, YHWH, which are the four consonant letters used to spell God’s name in the Old Testament (Exodus 3: 14) The Hebrews considered the name of God too holy to pronounce and susbstituted the word “Lord” (adonai) when the text was read The vowels of the word “adonai” was combined with YHWH to get the word “Jehovah” which was first used in the 12th century A more accurate pronunciation of YHWH would be “Yahweh ” Howver, the exact and proper pronunciation has been lost
A Scripture name of the Supreme Being, by which he was revealed to the Jews as their covenant God or Sovereign of the theocracy; the "ineffable name"
terms referring to the Judeo-Christian God
a name used for God meaning the Self Existent God Often used as a prefix for another attribute of God ie: Jehovah Melek (the throne name of God)
a name for the God of the Old Testament as transliterated from the Hebrew consonants YHVH
God's holy name (Isa 42: 8; Psa 83: 18) Some brothers use Jehovah's name in public prayer in nearly every sentence, as a filler, and others use it two or three times in a single sentence When used in such a way it becomes a meaningless mannerism [w86 5/15 21-23] A brother from California urged me to be sure to point out that some brothers in his home town pronounce God's name Je-HO-ver Sadly, quite a few Witnesses whose only language is English actually misspell God's name as ``Jehova'' Do these people ever study, or even bother to read the Bible or the magazines? NOTE: Never criticize brothers who offer public prayer for their words offered from the heart On the rare occasion that something genuinely inappropriate is said, trust that Jehovah was listening and will care for any correction that may be needed

A Jehovah's Witness is a member of a religious organization which accepts some Christian ideas and believes that the world is going to end very soon. a member of a religious organization that believes the end of the world will happen soon and sends its members to people's houses to try to persuade them to join. Member of an international religious movement founded in Pittsburgh, Pa. , by Charles T. Russell in 1872. The movement was originally known as the International Bible Students Association, but its name was changed by Russell's successor, Joseph Franklin Rutherford (1869-1942). The Witnesses are a millennialist group whose beliefs are based primarily on the apocalyptic sections of the Bible, notably Daniel and the Book of Revelation. They refuse to perform military service or salute the flag, actions which have brought them into direct conflict with governments around the world. They are famous for their door-to-door evangelizing and for refusing blood transfusions; they believe there is scriptural justification for all their actions and beliefs. Their goal is the establishment of God's kingdom on earth, and they hold that Jesus who is believed to be God's first creation rather than one person in a trinity is God's agent in this plan. Their national headquarters is in Brooklyn, N.Y.; their major publications, the Watchtower and Awake!, are published in about 80 languages. See also millennialism
