born July 14, 1918, Anselmo, Neb., U.S. U.S. electrical engineer and management expert. He taught and conducted research at MIT, where in 1945 he founded the Digital Computer Laboratory. There he invented the magnetic core random-access memory (RAM) used in digital computers for information storage.
