[ in-'rap, en- ] (transitive verb.) 14th century. From Middle English enwrappen, inwrappen (“to wrap in”), from en-, in- + wrappen (“to wrap”). Compare also Middle English inwlappen (See lap, “to enwrap”). More at en-, wrap. Cognate via Old French with envelop, envelope.
