A Chief Justice is the most important judge of a court of law, especially a supreme court. The presiding judge of a high court having several judges, especially the U.S. Supreme Court. the most important judge in a court of law, especially the US Supreme Court. Presiding judicial officer within any multijudge court. It is the title of the highest judicial officer in any U.S. state, and of the leader of the U.S. Supreme Court.
