steam engine
A piston engine driven by steam (as contrasted, for example, with a steam turbine)
A steam locomotive
Any heat engine that uses steam as its primary working fluid to do mechanical work
external-combustion engine in which heat is used to raise steam which either turns a turbine or forces a piston to move up and down in a cylinder
An engine that converts the heat energy of pressurized steam into mechanical energy, especially one in which steam drives a piston in a closed cylinder. Machine that uses steam power to perform mechanical work through the agency of heat (hence a prime mover). In a steam engine, hot steam, usually supplied by a boiler, expands under pressure, and part of the heat energy is converted into work. The rest of the heat may be allowed to escape, or, for maximum engine efficiency, the steam may be condensed in a separate apparatus, a condenser, at comparatively low temperature and pressure. For high efficiency, the steam must decrease substantially in temperature as it expands within the engine. The most efficient performance (i.e., the greatest output of work in relation to the heat supplied) is obtained by using a low condenser temperature and a high boiler pressure. (geo) (auto) An engine in which the mechanical force of steam is used as a motive POWER to drive machinery, etc F - moteur A vapeur S - motor de vapor de agua
an engine driven or worked by steam; specifically : a reciprocating engine having a piston driven in a closed cylinder by steam
engine using pressurized steam to supply mechanical energy
An engine moved by steam
the steam engine gives power to the system With this steam power, the wheels turn easier Steam power makes it possible to do some repetitive things automatically
