    Etymology

[ 'A-pr&n, -p&rn ] (noun.) 15th century. Earlier napron, from Old French napperon, diminutive of nappe (“tablecloth”), from Latin nappa (“napkin”). The phrase a napron was reinterpreted as an apron, that is why the initial n is now missing.
