(foaled 1917) U.S. Thoroughbred racehorse. In two seasons (1919-20), he won 20 of 21 races, including the Preakness and Belmont stakes. (He did not run in the Kentucky Derby.) He sired 64 stakes horses, including War Admiral, a Triple Crown winner (1937). In a 1950 Associated Press poll, Man o' War was voted the greatest horse of the first half of the 20th century

A complex colonial siphonophore of the genus Physalia, of warm seas, having a bluish bladderlike float with a broad saillike crest from which hang numerous long stinging tentacles. a very large, poisonous jellyfish. Any of various floating, warm-water marine cnidarians (genus Physalia, class Hydrozoa) found worldwide but mostly in the Gulf Stream and the Indian and Pacific oceans. The medusa-form body consists of a translucent, jellylike, gas-filled float, which may be 3-12 in. (9-30 cm) long. Polyps beneath the float bear hanging tentacles up to 165 ft (50 m) long. Nematocysts on some polyps paralyze fish and other prey. Other polyps then attach to, spread over, and digest the victim. A third type of polyp is involved in reproduction. The painful sting of Physalia can cause fever, shock, or disruption of heart and lung function
