Etymologie
() In 1956 Carlton and United Breweries started brewing their Carlton Draught beer in Darwin and the logistics of freight meant it was more efficient to put it in a larger bottle. Darwin and the Northern Territory has a reputation for heavy drinking, so imagining such a large bottle there as equivalent to a stubby (normally about 375 millilitres) seemed appropriate. A joke (unsourced) has it that the brewery manager was told by his doctor to reduce his beer consumption to 1 stubby a day for the sake of his liver. So he had his factory make a 2 litre stubby!
