(Din) The is the portion of a Eucharistic service when bread and wine are brought to the altar. The offertory exists in many liturgical Christian denominations, though the Eucharistic theology varies among celebrations conducted by these denominations
The congregation is asked, as an act of worship, to give back to God a portion of what they have received This is also called the Offering We give to God from our time, talent and treasure
Most think of the offertory as the time in the worship service where the offering is taken up The offering of money is part of the offertory, but the offertory also includes the offering of bread and wine that is to be consecrated during the communion, and the offering of " ourselves, our souls and bodies, to be a reasonable, holy and living sacrifice " (BCP Page 336 ) Or, as Rite II says, "Sanctify us also " (BCP page 363))
